NEW PRINCETON, Ore. - President Trump pardoned two Oregon ranchers imprisoned for arson on federal lands.

Dwight Lincoln Hammond Jr. and his son Steve Hammond started a fire on their property in Oregon in 2001, they said to protect from wildfires and invasive plants.

Prosecutors say they were covering up evidence of poaching.

They were each sentenced to five-years in prison, after a push from the Obama administration for longer sentences.

In a press release, the Trump Administration called it an "overzealous appeal" and said of the sentences "this was unjust".

The arrest of the two men sparked rancher Ammon Bundy to launch an armed standoff in 2016.

He led a militia that broke into the headquarters of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.

The standoff lasted for 41 days and one protester was killed.
