CHICO, Calif.-- Chico Police are looking for information on the early morning vandalism of the the Tea Bar & Fusion Cafe on Vallombrosa Avenue early Monday morning.
Tea Bar opened at the location in 2004, and owner Shelly Blanshei says she is truly shocked; she says nothing this seemingly malicious has happened to her restaurant before.
Blanshei learned about the vandalism Monday morning at about 3:45 a.m. when the hired security company heard the alam go off - but when they arrived on scene, the suspect or suspects were gone.
What was left was three busted in windows and dozens of uprooted plants.
But, it appeared to staff that the person or people responsible were not attempting to take anything, and employees tell us that nothing was missing and the front door was untouched.
"Someone vandalized out window, threw out our plants, but basically we haven;t seen anything like this before ... they didn't try to get in they just broke the window and destroyed the outside," said Karlie Wreaks, Assistant Manager.
Blasnhei said that police were looking into finding any sort of security footage from a neighboring businesses, so *Action News Now* spoke with management at Morning Thunder Cafe right across the street.
While they don't have cameras pointed toward the Tea Bar, they have a very different take on the amount of bizarre, criminal activity that takes place at their business.
"We've had our front door try to be pried open multiple times, we saw someone try to break into Wells Fargo and then come over here ... Some of the them are very aggressive and we've had to intervene or call the cops, there's a bus stop here and it's always trashed, we've had our place trashed, and it's just starting to get a little scary," said Caylen Luna, Manager.
This is something that Chico Police are trying to be pro-active about; In fact, their Street Crimes Unit recently made a sweep of 25 arrests in areas like this - near the park and the downtown - for burglary, drug dealing, bike theft and retail theft.
