On Saturday Corporal Ruben Murgia was one of the first people to arrive on scene of the “Stoll Fire” in Red Bluff.

Early on his focus was getting people in the area out but he quickly realized the fire was moving towards his home.

“I called my wife who was at home and told her grab the kids and the dogs and you have to go,” Murgia said.

After his wife and kids got out of their family home the fire swept through the entire area burning many businesses and homes in its wake.

By the time Corporal Murgia had a chance to go back to his home, it had already burned to the ground.

“I think it was probably closer to 8 when I came back and it had already come through and the house was already on the ground,” Murgia said.

Here is the view from his police car looking at his home collapsed after he returned.

“Initially I kind of hoped that somethings were salvageable but nothing was,” Murgia said.

But in the wake of this tragedy the Red Bluff community had opened their arms to the entire family donated anything from clothes to food to furniture.

“The amount of support that we have received from community especially in Red Bluff has been fantastic,” Murgia said.

He says that with all of the donations his family will be able to move into a new home soon and that they couldn't have done it without the community around them.

“Just the sheer amount of people that are coming forth especially in today's age when we aren't the most popular in law enforcement we have a definite back the blue mentality in Red Bluff and it shows,” Murgia said.
