HORNBROOK, Calif. - The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office and Cal Fire are confirming one civilian fatality in connection with the Klamathon Fire burning in the North State. No information is currently available regarding the identity of the victim, the circumstances of the death or where exactly it happened.

The fire has become large and ferocious enough that Governor Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency for Siskiyou County where 8,000 acres have burned with only 5% containment.

Action News Now reporter Mario Montalvo surveyed the damage in Hornbrook where he said several homes have been destroyed by the fire with some of the remains still smoldering. He said power crews are currently working to replace downed poles and power lines.

A Cal Fire representative told Montalvo crews worked throughout the night battling the fire northwest of Hornbrook and will continue to do so throughout Friday.

Interstate 5 which was closed overnight just north of Redding was reopened to traffic at around 6:30 am Friday, but the exit to Hornbrook remains closed.
