Chico, Calif.—On Wednesday afternoon several Pleasant Valley High students received awards for their involvement in a state-wide contest.

The students submitted different multimedia public service announcements to help increase awareness of elder and dependent adult abuse.

Last year in Butte County, there were 2,200 calls on possible abuse. Organizers of the contest said elder abuse is a sad issue that's not really talked about, so they wanted to make it uplifting by getting kids involved and showcasing their talents.

Quinn Farley, a senior at the school, submitted projects for three different categories and won about $850, but he said the impact his work will have is what’s most important to him.

"Main goal is if this can help even one person get the help they need, that's worth it for me. But hopefully it can reach some people and they hear that these resources are out there and they can get some help," said Farley.

The posters created by the students will be on display outside of the governor's office at the state capitol.
