CHICO, Calif. - Rock music and politics took over the city plaza on Sunday afternoon in Chico.

A non-partisan event called “Rock the Vote” was held, giving people the opportunity to meet local candidates running for office.

There were a variety of different candidates there including those running for Butte County Supervisor, Auditor, Controller and even City Council.

While not all of them attended, organizers said all candidates were invited.

Ray Laager is with KZFR Community Radio, one of the organizers of the event and said with the primary being this coming Tuesday, it’s important for voters to be aware and involved.

“Democracy works when we participate. And when we don't participate, it doesn't work so great. Just a way for people to show how you feel, we all have opinions, this is a way to express them,” Laager said.
