Get ready for another very hot and dry day across Northern California before you head out the door this morning. Severe heat, and high fire danger are continuing for your Wednesday. Temperatures have stayed very warm overnight. Valley areas are starting out in the 60's to 70's this morning, and mountain areas are in the 40's to 50's for the start of your Wednesday. Skies are clear this morning, and are expected to stay sunny today. Winds are projected to be out of the Northwest to 10mph, and humidity will dip to as low as 10 percent this afternoon. High temperatures will range from the high 90's to around 104 degrees in the valley this afternoon, while mountain areas end up in the mid to high 80's later on today. The well above average temperatures, and very low humidity will be the big driving factors resulting in high fire danger across the region today. The good news is that winds are not quite as strong, so that will help to keep our fire danger slightly lower than yesterday.
Temperatures are not expected to be quite as hot for the remainder of your work week, but will stay above average for this time of year. Most valley areas will end up in the low to mid 90's on Thursday, and will then top out in the low 90's on Friday. Skies will stay sunny to mostly sunny, with some clouds brushing across our region. A wet and cooler system will be tracking into the Pacific Northwest over the next few days, and that will help to result in slightly cooler temperatures. We will also see the return of South winds towards the end of the week, which means we will more than likely get some cooling from the Delta Breeze as well.
Not much is expected to change from Friday to your weekend in the valley, but showers will be possible in some mountain areas on Saturday. Looks like we may have enough moisture and instability to produce showers and thunderstorms in higher elevations closest to the Oregon border on Saturday afternoon and evening. The potential for showers will continue in that same area on Sunday, and could even extend into the start of next week. Sunday will be slightly warmer than Saturday, with valley areas climbing back into the mid 90's. Temperatures are projected to climb into the mid to high 90's for the valley to start off next week. Models are currently split on whether to expect mountain showers to linger into your Monday forecast.
