Adams County, CO.—Police responded to a call of an officer down at around 7:00 local time Wednesday night and sources with the Adams County Sheriff’s department said the suspect has been taken into custody.

The shooting happened in Adams County, about an hour east of Denver.

Residents in the area said they heard several gun shots and there was an immediate large law enforcement response that included SWAT teams and canine units.

While the suspect was on the loose, residents in the area were advised to stay indoors and away from windows.

A police spokesperson said the suspect is considered dangerous and if that person was willing to shoot a cop, they could shoot anyone.

This is the second police shooting this month to take place close to Denver—earlier this year five deputies were shot, and one killed, in a Denver suburb.
