TEHAMA, COUNTY, Calif - Gregg Cohen, the Tehama County District Attorney announced on Friday that he will not seek a sixth term.

Cohen has been District Attorney for 20 years and was voted by the public in five separate occasions, according to a press release sent from the DA.

Cohen left a statement about the decision:

My decision not to run for re-election has been one of the toughest decision of my professional life. The position has challenged me greatly, allowed me to mature, grow and develop in the profession that I love. The people of Tehama County have been absolutely wonderful to me.

One of Cohen’s biggest prosecutions involved the 2013 murder of 14-year-old Marysa Nichols, the teenager who was found strangled to death behind Red Bluff Union High School.

In 2016, a jury in Sacramento found 42-year-old Quentin Ray Bealer of Gerber guilty of Nichols' death.
