RANCHO TEHAMA, Calif - Tehama County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Monday a pair of suspects they believe were driving around Rancho Tehama Reserve shooting a gun from their vehicle.

Deputies said just before 10 P.M., Tehama deputies, California Highway Patrol Helicopter and CHP patrol units responded to the Rancho Tehama Reserve regarding multiple reports of a vehicle driving around and a subject shooting from the vehicle.

Within minutes of sheriff’s deputies arriving in Rancho Tehama Reserve, they conducted a “High-Risk Traffic Stop” on a silver Honda Accord in the area of Rancho Tehama Rd at Hillcrest.

Deputies detained two suspects, 22-year-old Johnathan Nava-Garcia and 32-year-old Pablo Garcia.

During their investigations deputies determined that the suspects threw a .40 Cal Semi-automatic handgun out the window of the vehicle once deputies got behind them.

Deputies located the dumped gun approximately a quarter mile from the location of the stop on the side of the road. The firearm was loaded with five live rounds.

Nava-Garcia, a passenger in the Honda, admitted to owning the firearm and shooting approximately 150 rounds “safely” into a hillside in the Rancho Tehama area. However, deputies were unable to locate any witnesses that said they specifically saw Nava-Garcia shooting from the vehicle.

Both subjects were transported to the Tehama County Jail.
