Our latest Subway Scholar Athlete of the Week hails from Cottonwood and he spent part of his Holidays spreading Christmas cheer to those in need. Action News Now's Ross Field has the story.
For West Valley High School's Bailey Sulzer, family comes first - he's in Arizona on Christmas Break visiting loved ones - but after family, next on his list of priorities is being a leader.
"You're going to be a leader regardless of your choices whether they're good or bad so you better make good choices and I've always taken that to heart," said Sulzer.
The junior is all business when it comes to his academics, athletics and community service.
The star football player and track and field athlete carries a 4.0 GPA and recently volunteered his time by delivering gifts to sick children at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford University.
"That was just a really humbling experience for us especially as players, you look at life from a different perspective and see how things are from the other side," said Sulzer.
Sulzer says the best lessons in life are sometimes not in the classroom.
"The lessons we were able to learn from going down there, at least for me it makes me want to work harder to make sure that I'm doing everything I can to be the best person and athlete that I can because some of these kids don't even have the opportunity to walk or run," says Sulzer.
After high school, Sulzer wants to play football in college. His dream is to play for BYU, and he says he hopes to continue serving the community next year and after he graduates.
"That was awesome, that was a really cool thing to do and I'd love to do other things like that," says Sulzer...great feeling to have."
So, for his volunteering, smarts and athletic ability, West Valley High's Bailey Sulzer is our Subway Scholar Athlete of the Week.
